'service' light

Post by volvo850-mike »

forgive me if i'm vague but what would some of the major reasons be for this light to come on. My car seems to be running fine. Would a bad bulb cause it to come on. It stays on for about 90 seconds then shuts off.

It's completely normal. It's Volvo's way of reminding you to go to the dealership for your 90,000 mile maintenance service (aka, the big ripoff). The 90k service consists of: changing the spark plugs and air filter. It also includes inspecting all of the suspension and braking components, lubricating door hinges, and checking the engine/tranny for leaks. That info comes straight from Volvo. To reset the service light, go
here.

Thanks White....so then this service light wouldn't light up to indicate any type of mechanical problems, neither hidden or obvious, but rather just to remind you to check things that you should be doing in the first place?

Purely a timer. It's longest interval it can be set is, if memory serves, 18 months and 12k miles.
