I'm thinking it might be cool to have. Not only to clear check engine lights when/if they come on but to "geek out" on the data that can be obtained.

So any experience with this or a like product?

I have one from Carcode.com, similar but more expensive.

It's helped me find a few problems on various cars, and the trending/recording helped me identify an ETM problem on my S80.

Mine's not the most intuitive to use, but at the time I bought it it seemed to have the best database.

There's others out there with some real slick graphics, and they look like great products. Make sure you can get files for your model, and watch for update charges, some are quite high.

Autotap has some nice stuff, good website, and and a good set of email articles on diagnosics. At the time I checked, they didn't have a Volvo config.

Most of these will not read and clear ALL the codes, however. There are a lot of different modules in a Volvo, and most of the scanners I looked at usually just read the engine parameters.

And you're right, for geeking-out, it's pretty cool. Just make sure to keep the eyes on the road, not the laptop...
