S80 2001 cup holder will not collapse back down
How can I collapse or close the pop up cup holder. It use to just collapse when you pushed in the two sides. It seems to be locked? and I can not get it go fold up and go back down.
Sounds like something stuck, or broken off.
Not sure how well you can see the whole mechanism, but try to make sure everything is moving.
And, check in the bottom for little pieces...
Did you happen to put something extra large in it? Might have popped something off.

Look into the holder "stowage pocket" from the lefthand side. You will see 2 V-shaped pieces of plastic (they were connected to the upper cupholder arms, but probably got broken off when you pushed the oversized cup into the holder) that hold the cupholder open. Push them toward the center of the stowage pocket with a screwdriver or butter knife and the cupholder should release so you can push it back down.

It looks like there's a Torx screw at the bottom that holds it in, but that it also may be held in from the side.
There is another holder behind that one that you expose by pushing on one of the buttons on console in front of the console top cover, then a door folds forward to reveal the holder.

I do use the drop in holder behind the pop up one, but the pop up, collapsible one is so neat. All these years, I would release it, use it & it would just fold down and away when I did not need it, Now I am so disappointed that it no longer folds down & over. Was it just its time? Is there a quick fix? Is yours still fully functional?
