95 960 throttle position sensor

Post by jimsbiz »

Hello,
I had taken the throttle plate off and clean it, I also removed the throttle position sensor
My question is that when I removed inside the sensor has a lot of oil in it , is this common?
Should this be replaced?

My first question would be what type of oil is it? Followed by how did it get in there?

Is it engine oil or has someone put machine oil on the connector to reduce the risk of corrosion?

Whatever the answers I assume the sensor was working before you took it off. If so clean it up as best you can and put it back on. Why replace something that isn't broken?

It is engine oil.
The only reason why I am asking is due to bad idle, non responsive to giving gas , hesitation
I will still keep researching solutions
Thanks

jimsbiz,

The attached lists a few things to check for the bad idle and hesitation.

All I can say on this is be very, very careful when you purchase parts. I don't want to beat IPD but they do not cover the 95 960. It's in fine print. You can see my thread in the review of vendors on the main board.
Many Thanks,

Ok just a little updated on what I have done
1st problem starting issues
New gel battery NO GOOD, Replaced
Alternator had tested was ok, but then he opened up and no telling when it could go so had orignal Alternator rebuilt
I had to replace the wiring going to the coils they were in bad shape and also replaced connectors that snap into coil
Replaced spark plugs
Also took off Idle air control and sprayed carb cleaner pretty dirty

Up date on how things are now
Well car starts and runs , every so often car surges idle not as much as before
If I step on gas there is a some what of a hesitaion, as I let car warm up it doesnt seem to do as much

I am probably going to change fuel filter
And I know when I put throttle body back on I did not put new gasket on , so I will do that
It still bothers me somewhat about the oil in the throttle position sensor, I wondering If I can spray carb cleaner or electric contact cleaner in and clean up????

I still have not picked up manual, but can someone tell me where the coil wires go to??? There is no distributor on this car I belive 95 960
All I see is they come out the back of engine.

You will probably do no harm using either but the electric contact cleaner would be my choice.

Two power stages have replaced the distributor. One, at the front of the intake manifold, controls plugs 1, 3 and 5 and the other, at the rear of the intake manifold, controls plugs 2, 4 and 6.

Has it stored any fault codes?

I think I will try the contact cleaner on Throttle position sensor

I had cleared all computer faults , check engine a while back
I have just had car running in driveway and around block and no faults
But I do not know how long it takes to get fault, or if any faults

When you refer to the power stages , are these the same as temp sensor?
Would you have to have pic or diagram?

As far as the hesitation when giving gas what would you think?

Jim

Here is the sequence for the wiring loom (via the knowledge of Bill)

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =2&t=23925

I'm not sure if that's what you are asking for. But if you do have a wiring loom mix up it could be part of the problem.

Good Luck,

Well I double checked all wiring to each coil all is same and relabled correct color elec tape.

The question I had was the THE TWO POWER STAGES that you refer to are they not the Engine Coolant Temp ECT sensor?
I have located the one under#2#3 intake its bolted down into block next to EVAP canester
Reading up on the ECT sensor, this also plays a role with gas
