Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 1999 Check Engine /ABS/ATC Lights - not ETM or ABS Modul

Post by ctriordan »

Wondering if anyone has expierenced the same problem. About 100 miles after getting my 1999 S80 with 108000 miles on it, I had the timing belt replaced as well as another belt ($700). About a week later I got my abs/tcs and check engine light came on and "fix transmission". When applying the break I lost all gas, and when letting off it came back on. They told me it was my ABS Module - replaced ($850). Everything was ok for a day, and then it all came back on and I had no tach or spd gauges. This time they told me it was related to my ETM - Replaced ($850). The day I got the vehicle back, I drove it to work and everything that was originally wrong with it was back on, and they can't figure it out. I did also have a siren signal falure (alarm siren fault), but they tell me this should not be effecting this. My problem is they have done all this work and now everything is still wrong --- was the work warrented??? They are supposedly Fixing the issue for free, but anyhelp as to possible causes would be appreciated. As of right now I am driving a new Jag XK8 off their lot till they figure it out, but I would like MY car back! - PS They have checked the wiring.

The alarm system problem is probably due to a bad battery in the siren module. See the repair database for a fix. It's probably not related to the other problems.

With all those other things "malfunctioning" at the same time, I wonder if the main engine control module has gone bad. Unfortunately, these are expensive to buy and require programming by the dealer. Maybe it's a bad connection to the module?

GOT THE CAR BACK turns out it was the CEM central electrical module which caused all the problems. It took them a week to trouble shoot. Both of my old parts were able to be put back on (well the ETM) the ABS module was free cause they did not have the old one to test. Either way I am getting a credit for the parts difference. I hope this helps anyone else that might experience these symptoms
