i understand when changing the oil it is recomended to drain the intercooler as well.
i'm a brand new s70 owner and could use all the help i can get.

There is no need to drain the oil cooler when you change the oil. You would have to take the oil cooler line off to drain it and if you do that, you need to replace the seals and everything otherwise it will leak. Just change the oil like you normally do.

I think you misread FCP, he said intercooler not oil cooler. To drain the intercooler I usually take off the lower hose off the intercooler on the drivers side. The intercooler is behind the radiator.

I am kinda confused on this post from the get go. The intercooler should drain itself so long as the drain hole isn't clogged up. What you drain from there is water that occurs from compressing humidity in the air. It really has nothing to do with the oil system.

Some people get real anal about oil changes and talk about draining the oil cooler in the radiator but IMHO it is a waste of time and money for the new oil line retainer clip, it only holds a few ounces of oil to begin with and there is likely more left behind the baffles in the sump than that. Just drain the oil from the plug and add back until full, you will be fine unless the car has been swimming.
