99 S80 T6 Rear seat removeal?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 S80 T6 Rear seat removeal?

Post by dcarlson12 »

VADIS seats to say just lift the seat rear firmly along the front edge. I tried this and it doesn't seem to want to budge. Am afraid I am going to break something. Has any one removed the rear seat and if so, are there some secret(s)?

The rear seat (the lower part) will pop out easily. Grab under the front edge of the seat and give it a firm tug upwards. It will pop out. Make sure you remove all the spare change before re-assembly. The upper part (the back rest) is a little more involved.

Keith,
Thanks for the reply. I tried giving a good tug but it sure doesn't feel like it is going to let go before something breaks. It says in VADIS
"First lift the bottom edge of the end of the cushion.
Lift the front edge of the cushion.
Note! The cushion may be securely attached.
Lift out the cushion.
Note! Check that the cushion clips are intact.
If not: Replace."

Sounds like they expect something(clips) to break.???

Do they mean lift the bottom edge along the side (end) near the back and the front bottom edge at the same time?

I am no 'Green Hulk' and when I give a tug it means a real tug and so far no good.

Try pushing back on the seat a little when you give a tug?

OK I got the bottom cushion out (and plan to lubricate the clips in case I have to do it again).
But now even with the 'wonderful' instructions provided in the attached instructions, I can't figure out how to 'release' the catches in order to remove the side cushions.
Help please.
I must be getting too old for this stuff. Can't figure out how/why they make things so difficult....

I went through this about two weeks ago. It's painfully difficult, and I was worried that I was going to break something at any time. There are two points of holding on the side cushions, and I got it out by working the lower one out first (this is the point where something could break, because they are both clipped in by some sort of springing catch). You can turn the cushion to one side to see the two catches (the lower one is slightly more visible). If you turn the cushion up as if you are sitting in the seat and move the cushion towards the door, there is a small torx screw about half way between the two catches that you could remove that might make it a little bit easier. You can't use a straight driver, I used a 1/4" socket with a 1/4" socket and a torx driver bit to get at it. I think it's a 5.5 or a 6, but I could be wrong. Don't drop anything, because you'll never see it again after it falls between the body panels. Good luck.

Finally got the side cushions off. Actually my 24 year old son helped. The clip which is shown in the .pdf file is actually shown upside down in the drawing. The 'spring' clip portion is on the underside and has to be pushed up in order for it to release. At that point and while it is released one has to push/lift the whole side cushion up and backwards toward the ceiling but at an angle parallel to the cushion. The top end of the cushion has a large 'hook' which releases from a 'hole' in the body work. After all that effort and getting access to the sender and fuel pump, I can see that the leak is not from around either of them. I filled the fuel tank and found that the leak is very likely from the connection from the tank to the charcoal canister. I couldn't see up far enough to tell for sure. It is a very small leak so I will try to live with it and hopefully the air care will be cancelled up here before it is due for another inspection. Otherwise I think I will try taking it to an independent Volvo mechanic and have him drop the tank to find and fix the leak.
