does anyone know if the window switch units marked "auto" are interchangeable with the ones that aren't?
what year did this start, '97?

I have auto window on my 96.
Its actually funny you ask about the auto window switch... I actually had one in my hand on saturday when i went to the yard. only problem was i had my better half with me since shes never been, and she reminded me... Yours works dont get a new one if it works fine. lol
I believe it was out of a 960, but it looked identical to mine.
so im sure you can swap. id call up a dealer and speak to the part department first to make sure. just ask if you can swap them....

My 94 driver side window switch does not say auto but the owners manual stated that a quick push on the "down" portion will trigger the auto down motion of the window. It works

When you are talking about a "window switch", are you talking about the individual switch, or the assembly of 8 (or 9?) switches (in the center console)?
I have two switches going bad; I was going to replace them individually, but they are soldered together in a kind of buss-bar arrangement... how difficult/easy is it to de-solder those to get at the switch individually? Seems to me the buss would sink away a LOT of heat, so that you might end up destroying the switches before getting the bussbar completely de-soldered...

when i went in for computers we just used like a role of this copper rope almost, and just press it to the solder, then hit it with the soldering gun. wam bam thank you ma'am and its gone.
I saw it a discount auto when i was picking up a cheap solder gun.
so id assume you can find it rather easy.
or head to your local auto yard and pick up a new one...
