Fault in the engine electronic system

Post by Pipes »

My 97 V70 has recently lit up the above light. It has been lighting up the abs and tracs off lights on and off(mostly on)for a while.I know what I have to do to get rid of the latter,is the 1st fault light similarly associated and as such will it extinguish when I repair the abs module?

What lights are on...check engine light,abs/tracs light or both?

However...check engine light is not related with abs/tracs light.

Hi Misha,thanks for replying.

The abs and tracs light are on.....I believe I know how to fix this.

Recently the light with a symbol on it that the handbook quotes as meaning"Fault in the engine electronic system"has lit up.

The light in question has a symbol that looks like an "A"without the horizontal bar.Is this the Check engine light you mention?

My question is,when I re-solder the module will this fix that light too?

Perhaps there is another fix for this.

Regards Peter

The indicator is called a "Lambda" light which is the same as the Check Engine light that we have here in the US. Fixing the ABS module generally won't impact the lambda light. In order find out which systems your car is not happy with you need to have the codes read from the OBD-II port.

Thanks Lee,i`m going to get the car up on my mates ramp tomorrow to have a good look round it and i`ll see if he`ll reset all the codes for me.I`m doing the abs module re-soldering job on Sat so I should get some accurate fault codes flag up next week.

Re-set the lambda light today,no other fault codes flagged up.Also turned off the annoying service light.I will post again after the module is re-soldered tomorrow.
Did find a leak on the steering pinion seal but ive posted seperately about that if anyone has an answer.

What was the code you had?
If there was a problem and it wasn't solved, the lambda light will be back as soon as the car completes it's "driving cycle".

The lambda light came on only the other day, that was the only fault flagged.Im hoping it was just a drop of duff fuel set the lambda light on but if not i`ll have to put a new sensor in.Im right in the middle of putting the abs module back on after re-soldering it.I`ll take it for a spin to go through the drive cycle, hopefully the abs light will go out,the tracs has gone out already

No,no,no,no...driving cycle works just for lambda(check engine)light,it has nothing with abs/tracs light.

Abs/tracs light should go off(if resoldering was succesfull)imediately after the car reach 30-40km/h,not immediatelly after starting a car. You'll need to drive a car.

I just wonder how it is possible that tracs light went out when your abs module isn't installed yet. :!: Abs/tracs module are THE SAME module.

The only thing that felt on my mind could be just a blown tracs bulb.Check if the light appears in instrument cluster when key is in position II,before you start the car.If the light is not on with key in pos.II,then you have a blown bulb.

All lights out now

That was wierd yesterday,i just connected the 2 plugs without bolting the module back in place and only the abs light was on.When I bolted it back in place I was a bit cheesed off because both lights were back on but as you correctly said after taking it for a short drive today they both went out and havn`t come back on since.Happy days...

Thanks for the imput guys.
