Hearter core change
Re: Hearter core change
Question; i smell antifreeze also but before i notice a small pudddle under my car next to the driver's wheel like it was coming from the radiator. but now that's its cold, the smell and foggy windows appear.could it be both my water pump and H. core? my car is a s70 -2000 if that helps?

The water pump is on the passenger side of the car and is probably fine if you don't have a zillion miles on it - so if you're getting a leak by the drivers side, at the rear of the engine compartment that COULD be either a heater hose or turbo line. Towards the front of the car could be the lower radiator hose or a small crack in the radiator itself, which will leak into the rock guard underneath and may drip out over there. Look around under the hood and under the car to see what's wet.
The other symptoms (foggy windows, smell) are your heater core gone bad.

I didn't replace any of the O rings. Just packed all the connections with silicone sealant. No problems yet. The Stock O rings are a really poor design even when they are in good condition.
Ambitious but rubbish
OK jablackburn , so then there no way the water pump can drip to the shield?
Then i guess i have two problems and not three...heater core and hose leak, its funny how they can happen simutanously.

Yeah, no way pump could leak at left wheel.
Although, the drain to the radiator is right there though. Maybe it is dripping, it's just a plastic bleeder style fitting. I would drop the shield and take a good look before jumping to a conclusion.
How many miles do you have on your S70? My core started leaking at 155k.

Well, turn on your defroster vents and see if the windshield is getting fogged by the air coming out of the vents. See if you can smell the sweet antifreeze coming out.
If it's just a gurgling sound with some wet carpet then it's probably just that your under-dash drain line from the AC condenser. There's a rubber tube coming from under the dash on the passenger side. uncover it, pull it from the bottom and stick wire hanger up there and try to clear it out. Worst case scenario there's a part you can remove and really clean it.
I havent had to do it but I'll try to find the instructions....
