v40 sucking in air via dipstick

Post by doubledutch »

Hi .my names Allan from cambridge uk,and I badly need some help!. I run a 2002 1.6 v40 with 150,000 mls. the car has recently started making a whistleing noise and is sucking air in through the dip stick hole and is lumpy on tickover but otherwise runs great(it doesent happen when cold). Prior to this problem the car would make a funny cicking sound like a solonoid or valve oppening and closing ( a bit like my old citreon topping up the suspension)also had a recent oil change and filter. why is the engine sucking in air?,is it a blocked valve/ solonoid or have I got bigger problems!!. Any help you could give me would be fantastic cheers!.................regards allan

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

This is a symptom of a faulty Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system.

Clean out the oil trap and pipes.
