Engine Stalls when stopping

My volvo V40 - 99 model keeps stalling when I slow the engine revs. It happens almost all the time when I pull upto a stop, intersection etc - the revs drop normally and then dies.

It always starts immediatley after and idles normally at 10000 rpm - and if I keep the revs high when slowing up the engine stay alive but its a bit hard when the foots on the break and cluch.

I am thinking a possible fuel or filter problem and maybe an easy fix - wouldnt mind some advice prior to charging to the mechanics...
