no compression

I have a V40 with 196100 miles on it. just recently it began to miss on a cylinder. the code comes up #3, but there is no compression in number 4. I have removed the cam cover and am going to apply air to the cylinder with the valves in closed position. In hopes to target weather it is valves or piston/rings. would this test also work for head gasket? also were can i get a manual on removal/installation of cylinder head?

I just performed the air test. all of the air i put in the cylinder #4 came out the exhaust valve(s) when the cam lobes were not in contact with the lifters. Where could I also find literature on valve removal/installation?
