Trim Work
Trim Work
I have a 1995 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon and love it! Anyway I bought the car this past January in great shape, however, the black trim that runs on both sidesalong the roof line to the back is all peeling off. Does anyone know how to fix that, or do I need to take it to a body shop. Would love to fix it, then the car would look perfect, has great rims, tinted windows, and is red. Pretty sporty looking. I am looking at getting a roof rack soon.

There is at least one and maybe more similar post on the volvospeed site. Basically it is a thin rubberized coating that wears off from UV rays, and people usually strip all that off and leave it bright aluminum., or paint it black. How good htat looks depends on your skill. Replacements are pricey.

I have the same exact car as you...same thing happened with the trim, I ripped it off and painted it with flat black paint. Looks as good as new, used one of those styrofoam brushes, they sell them in just about the exact width as the trim, if its a little to big trim it down. These brushes will keep your trim from looking painted. NO BRUSH MARKS. Good luck.....you can also buy replacement pieces from the dealer but they will run you about 120 for each side.
If you paint remember that under the metal center of the trim is a indentation that will collect dirt and debris and water which will eventually lead to rust.. There are clips under the center that must be unclipped to change the windshield.
