Is ford and Volvo a partnership? or does one own the other?
For the moment Ford owns Volvo. They are trying to sell it and all of the rumored bidders are all Chinese. Ford used to own Jaguar and Range Rover and they sold that group to TATA motors in India a couple of years ago.

Just a reminder to those that might not have completed this recall. My wife took in the printout I got from the Ford website and my local dealership serviced the recall today. They were able to look it up in their system just fine. It only took them about 1hr to complete the work.

They replaced some fuel tank bushings. I don't remember the details involved with the recall.

Not sure what models are affected by this recall, but the inspection covers the heat shield attach points on the gas tank. After awhile, there were(are) reports of the gas tanks cracking around the areas where the heat shield attaches to the gas tank. Your dealer will inspect the areas in question and replace all associated hardware that holds the heat shield on. The recall on my car was done in late 2008 (not sure of exact month). This summer, after filling the car up and parking in the garage, I noticed a strong smell of gas in the garage after the car had been sitting for a while. I looked under the car and found my gas tank had cracked around one of the heat shield attachment points and gas was leaking out. Even though the recall had been done, I called my dealer and Volvo covered the cost of replacing the gas tank. If you haven't done this, I would do so, since the exhaust is so close to the tank.

The reason developed nations don't seem to be interested in buying car companies is because it is a low profit margin business and child's play these days. There is far more money to be made in manufacturing... advanced weapons.

We will be seeing more and more cars made in places like China because building cars these days is like building toys. Any country can do it.
