GPS for the car....

Post by AlanS »

Wife wants a GPS for her car. Went to Best Buy....many to choose from (Too many). Salesperson said to go with Garmin. Many models...can get very costly. Me, I favor a paper map...but, it would be a nice holiday gift for her.
Anyone have any experience with these things?

We bought a Garmin Nuvi for my daughter last year and I think it was good, she hasn't complained. Between her community service work and working various shifts as a nurses assistant in rough parts of town that she is unfamiliar with she has not been lost.

She gets a little extra attention as a petite, blue eyed, blond high schooler in a red Porsche so it is comforting to me that she can at least have a chance of navigating her way out of any unpleasant situation even when she is not familiar with the streets in the area.

I have a garmin nuvi with a lifetime traffic subscription. It is wonderful, for the most part. Sometimes it misses/underestimates the traffic ( I am in the MD/DC area) but it has saved my hide a bunch of times detouring me around accidents and construction. I think the garmin interface is the clearest and easiest to use. My dad had a magellan and my friend had a tom tom, so I have experience trying to use other ones.
