Post by wdshea »

must the tank be dropped to replace the fuel pump or is it under the back seat? (or in the trunk?)

ok, found the fuel pump, and when i turn the key to "on" i can hear the pump prime for a second.

problem is, there is no pressure registering before the filter.

is this a bad pump?

i have managed to get almost 10psi at the rail, now i can't get anything.

ideas?

have you verified that there is 12 volt at the pump? Maybe there is a relay that is shutting down.

From the pump, there is a hose going up to the 'lid' of the tank where you attach the pump assembly. That hose can split and 'leak' pressure out before it makes it to the main pump.

I'd pull the pump and take a look.

These pics might help a bit;

On first switch on the fuel pump will prime then go silent until you start the engine when it will run to replenish the fuel used.

If you are running the engine and the pump stops it may well be the relay acting up and that is the first place to check.

The fuel pressure at the rail should be about 43psi. If it rises slowly it indicates a blocked filter, strainer or lines.
