drivers front door latch...

Post by salts850 »

The light on my drivers front door (red safetylight) keeps staying on which drains my battery. I've narrowed it down to the latch itself. Does anyone know if you can repair it or do i need to replace the entire latch? I disconnected the light for now. With the door open i simulate the latch as if it where being closed. With the latch in the closed position you can move the latch side to side. When doing this the light turns on and off. I priced a latch out at the dealer and about fell over. Parts stores tell me it's a dealer item only. I'd like to have the light working, but not if it's going to cost me over 200 dollars. couldn't find one on ipd's web site.

Does your door shut all the way?
I racked my moms van sliding door, *popped out of track, and the latch wouldn't catch* when I was younger and she fixed it thru experience.

She just used a flat head to decompress something in there... to this day i have no clue what she did.

If nothing else providing the door shuts properly, just disconnect the light.

Here is the link to the latch itself.

It is normally a dealer only item, but we were able to get them for everyone. I know a few people are having this same issue right now. Once it gets cold, all the gremlins seem to come out.

fcp..... I was refering to the door latch itself, not the catch lever. Yeah if your door latch ever gets into the closed position just pull on the door handle and pop the latch back with a screw driver.

The best dealer prices I've found are with DW:

Darryl Waltrip Volvo
(800) 689-0021
Ask for Jamie or Don

Great place for a baseline price on Blue Box parts!

Your welcome r.t.m. lol. I'm aware of the junk yard and thought about that as an option.Unplugging the light is also one. That's what i have done for now. I like to keep everything in my car working and if i can find a decent price for a brand new one i guess i would prefer to go that route. I'll check out dw, thanks bejinbk.

Ok, so i went with "rtm" idea and pulled a latch from a 95 wagon.installed it and now the alarm light doesn't work and when locking from dr door, it only locks the dr door. also when unlocking dr door, it locks the other three. any ideas. i've since reinstalled the old door latch and removed the chime relay. I'm not proud of the fix, but i refuse to pay 170.00 for a new latch. Is this a common failure?

Yes, common.
I can get you a NEW latch for under $100 or call www.erievovo.com and buy a used one.
ALL their parts are guaranteed. You should be able to pick one up for 50-60 bucks.
Also remember every latch (all 4 doors) are different do order the right one.
