V40 2002 B42T3 Eng VVT Exh Cam Gear Leak?

Post by User635 »

Hello,

Is it possible for the VVT cam gear to leak oil? Oil seems to be running out of it, but I can't pinpoint the leak. Cam seals are new, as is the timing belt. The gear has 105K miles on it.

Thanks,
Jim

Yes, the VVT gears do leak. I started poking around the gear and found the little pins that press against the underside of the gear leaking oil. There was enough coming out after just 30 seconds of running to make me believe that the VVT gear is the source of my leak.

I have a new gear coming, and that will hopefully finish up this job.

Jim
