94 850 turbo code reading question

Post by Joe- »

I have a 94 850 turbo, it has an OBDII port in the console. I took the car to auto zone and had the codes read, no codes. From what I understand the OBDII port only reads engine codes...? I read the codes from the OBDI port under the hood and got some out of A2, A3, and A7...but can not get any codes out of A6. Is this because those codes are read through the OBDII port? Or is there something wrong? Also, there is no CEL light that comes on....not even when the car is off and in posistion II. Bulb burnt out? I've never seen it come on.

Also, one more question unrelated to codes....I just did a complete PCV system replace and have no smoke out of the dipstick and idle, but seem to get almost a steam out of it when revved up. Is this normal? I did everything...from cleaning the ports in the block to making sure the PTC was spottless.

Thanks for any help, Joe

The A-6 codes only read on the early ('93-'95) N/A models. With your turbo no codes from A-6 is as expected.

Alright, thank you.

Any ideas on the other issue(s)?

sometimes pepople remove them to sell cars. you can remove the lower part of the dash and the srs knee bolster and go up there with a small flashlight or little led light. look at the cluster and see if its shining through any of the warning lights. best done in a garage or at night. buld replacement can be done through the bottom also.

Good info, thank you! I will look at that today.

On another note...I read the codes, then cleared them, and from the day bought this car the ABS and TRACS light has been on. From what I've read usually the ABS control module goes bad in these cars...now the lights are OFF!?? I seriously doubt clearing the codes fixed it...seems kind of odd haha. Also, when you flip the TRACS switch should the light on the dash turn on?

Also the rear speakers started to work!! Could be a fluke, usually they turn on then quit shortly there after...but they stayed on for about half an hour last night....LOL I hate it when things fix themselves and I don't know why!!!

on my 93 850 both front tone rings (abs rings) on the axels were cracked so i had the same problems. but I just had an ABS light because it didnt have tracs control. I read the codes and got front wheel speed sensors codes. the front dash and rear deck speakers have small tweeters and the round magnets fall off and the speaker wont work. my rf tweeter magnet was on top of my blowermotor. this is common. your rears may be loose. you can reglue the magnets in with a hood adhesive and they will work again.

Yeah I think it was a left rear speed sensor code when I read them.

lol I found both of the tweeter magnets under the dash...I'll look at the rears today, thank you.

Anybody have an idea on the dipstick smoke/steam when revved? All the things I've read about the PCV symptoms were at idle.
