That was in 1979 in France. They were actually fighting for the second place! They (Arnoux and Villeneuve) had to appear in front of a disciplinary commitee that said that they must have been out of their mind.
Arnoux said that could have happened only between him and Villeneuve because he was at all time confident that the fight would remain clean. They were good friends and amazing pilots. Arnoux said that after the race he couldn't read the "Renault ELF" inscription on the side of the car because they touched so often that it was erased by Villeneuve's tires!
By the way, that was the Grand Prix where Reneault, after less then 2 years in F1, proved the value of its innovative choice of a V6 turbo engine.
