Dealer code didn't work for radio

Post by Migilla »

I went to the dealer and gave him my registration, he told me 4366. It didn't work. Now my radio is locked.
Any thoughts?

Okay, called dealer and they suggested pulling the radio and looking on top. Saw 2554 written in pen on the radio. Guess I should of tried that first.

Now I need to wait two hours and try again.

All of my radios have the code written on them with a Sharpie since none of them actually match the VIN number of the car that they are installed in. It is a practice I use and I think many others do as well.

Getting the radio out of Lock mode can be a real PITA, go at least 2 hours and you may need more time.

If my latest attempt doesn't work, I'll pop the whole thing out and try that, thank you.

2.5 hours and the code I found written on the top did not work. Tried it once, pulled the radio out again to check myself and tried again. After this failure I decided to take my own advice and stop at the dealer.
Pulled the radio out and saw another handwritten code on the back of the unit. Since I was alreay there, I went ahead and asked the service department. They ran the radio serial number and confirmed this other number was correct. Popped the radio in, punched in the second number and now have sound back. Yippee. What a PITA.

just pulled a very nice one from a old volvo at the jy. premium sound system.
813.

Called up a few dealers all being a pita... called up volvo dealer part department in tampa, told they guy this.

Hey man, I just changed my battery and my radio wants its code and unfortunately I do not have it.
when he starts to hint at the fact he needs your vin, tell him
Now the bad thing is when I bought the car it had a aftermarket radio in it, and personally id like to keep it stock, well bring it back to stock.
Once they agree with you and laugh about the rest thinking you are going to steal a 13 yr old radio, give him the part no, and the serial number and your good to go. your excat radio code.

I took a red sharpie and marked it on the top so i dont have to worry about actually having that happen to me. haha.
