Post by mommymonster »

i just replaced my serpentine belt and i had to jump start my car afterward. however now the battery lite keeps coming on and off. very annoying, any suggestions? there is also some sluggishness at quick acceleration.

The battery light comes on when the alternator is not charging the battery. Make sure the belt is not slipping at all and that the tensioner is still good.

+1. Double check the belt - then check your voltage at the battery terminals with the car running. You should be seeing between mid-13's-14's in voltage.

It also wouldn't hurt to check both battery cables, the ground connection at the back of the engine bay and the battery cable to the starter. If they're loose, it could give you the intermittent battery light.

Do you notice any whining that wasn't there before?

so just to clarify, all you changed was the serp belt? if u replaced the altenator, maybe the pulley is a different size and u need to swap it with the old one? or you routed your belt wrong? flashing batt light would be an intermittent problem so also check for loose connection and corrosion.

We did the timing belt cause he was at 139200 and we noticed the serpentine was frayed, so we changed that too. not anything else.

when i bought the car in March, i replaced the battery. winters up here are frigid!
