Hi New kid on block, Coolant change tips type & ATF

Work on kids 2000 v40 get him back to college (141k+). Book says get volvo coolant? Any 50/50 green ok?? Will change thermostate while at it (napa). Can I get a good flush thru resivoir-thermostate hole- into heater core without taking off hoses? Does key need to be on to open heat core valve? Little concerned about bleeding thru red screw. Do you do it with engine running -filler cap off??

Also changing trans fliud with Amsoil ATF 100% syn.
