Motor Oil

OK what oil should go in my DD 2001 S-80 2.9? The selling dealer changed the oil and used regular dino oil not syn. My fault as I should have told them I wanted syn in it. I will keep in it for 2500 miles then change it myself. I'm a Pennzoil Platinum kind of guy myself.

I like the Synthetic stuff and you can run it longer than the 2500-3000 miles too. I use the Castrol multigrade synthetic 10-30 WT. I have run all my autos on the stuff including my little Fiat 124 Sport Spider. Other than the usual Fiat problems of a points that close up, it ran great (FIAT= Fix It Again Tony). My last Volvo ( a 1984 760 GLT with the V-6) ran over 300K before a fuel pump problem along with some electrical failures finally doomed it.

I too like the synthetics. I have an 850 not an s80 so take my advice with a grain of salt, lol. Mobile 1 is defintily good for the 850's I would imagine it would be fine for an s80, thought.

Mobil-1 or Royal Purple is good stuff. I use 10W-30 in mine, depending on where you live you may want to use a 5W-30. Once you switch to synthetic, you'll be fine going 5000+ miles between oil changes after the first couple changes.

castrol syn is cheep at wally world, a 5 qt. bottle AND it is on the list of approved oil for my 99v70xc

Cool I know about the extended oil change intervals with Syn oils, I run Syn in a 04 Ram Diesel filter change with make up oil every 5K and complete oil change every 20K. I run and oil analysis at Blackstone Labs every complete change http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ .

We are in NW Ohio so we will be using 5W30.
