S60 5T 2006 Extended warranty

Post by dick reynolds »

We have 48,000 miles on our car with a 50,000 mile or 4-year warranty that is expiring in April 2010. We are most pleased with it and it has been serviced as specified. Our concenr is an extended warranty recommended? Is there a history of problems as it ages? I have heard the Volvo is an excellent car and has had little mechanical problems. We will look forward to your suggestions. Thanks, :) Dick Reynolds

Hello Mr. Reynolds, I have heard several posters say that extended warrantys aren't worth the money. None of them ever offered specifics. Begin researching these companies by finding out their names. Then acquire their glossy, carefully crafted brochures. Then ask each one for the contracts for each level of coverage they offer. Are you equipt to read and understand the contract you'd be signing? I'm not referring to their stinking brochure. If you were required to pay for a repair, then file a claim for reimbursement, would your mechanic cooperate if needed? Do these companies have unwieldy "old parts inspections"? How much does it cost to file a complaint in small claims court where you live? How far away is the small claims court? I hoped polls or surveys on these sites would be participated in more eagerly, but they're not. You could try to start a new poll. Maybe you'd get the best intell from the horses mouth. Go out and ask as many service managers and independant mechanics you can find what their experiences have been. In the broadcast environment where I live (NYC) the flood of extended warranty commercials has been displaced by tax preperation ads and "Sell your gold" ripoff artists. Don't ask a used car dealer who sells them-bad info. Even though you're from Virginia, it might be time for a heapin' helpin' of "Yankee skepticism". Post back and tell us what you learn, hear or find. Kira
