V90 fuel consumption

Post by ptootill »

I have seen a lot of posts about fuel consumption for the V90. My main problem is that, being in the UK, I'm not sure what sort of gallons they are quoting!

My car is a 1997 V90 3.0SE automatic with the 204bhp engine and 92,000 miles on the clock. I'm getting 24 miles per UK gallon (around 20 miles per US gallon) on mostly motorway (freeway) driving.

I have tried sticking to a steady 70mph and being a little less steady (70 is the limit in the UK). Doesn't seem to make much difference. Car has been recently serviced by Volvo.

I have seen posts from people quoting 25 mpg (I assume these were US gallons from the context) which would be 30 miles per UK gallon - this sounds unlikely, given the size of the engine and car.

What is the best I can expect - and do things like fuel type, oil & sports air filters really make a difference???

Would welcome feedback from other V90 drivers
