Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S-80 2.9

The shop I took it to only works on Mercedes, Saab and Volvo. They looked it over and only found two things wrong.

First was the oil drain plug was/is leaking needs a new crush washer we hope.

Second is the oil separator is leaking at the block, this sounds expensive as he said it's a 2.5/3 hour job. From the looks of it , it shouldn't be that hard. It's not a turbo so it looks like just pull the intake and I should be able to get to it. I'm I right here, I have pulled a lot of intakes off and it is not that hard or at lest not the one i have done. Let know if this is a big job or not.

I was doing some reading and came across something that said if you have the neg battery cable off for more then 20 minutes you are to turn the key to the II position before you hook it back up. I know the selling dealer did not do this and they said the sunroof worked at the time they took it in on trade. So I wounder if I unplug the neg cable for 30 min then turn the ignition switch to II then reattach the ground the sunroof might start working again? What do you guys think?

Before you go about disconnecting the battery again, shut the door, leaving it unlocked, and then lock/unlock it 3 times using the key. See if your sunroof works then. If not, try the battery disconnect. I insert the key and turn to start after disconnecting it rather than waiting 20 mins because I'm impatient to drain the charge instead :mrgreen:

Not having a turbo makes that a much easier task - yes, I believe it's under the intake manifold in the S80 as well. You may want to get the hoses that attach to the box as well - I broke one of them getting it out of my S70, as they get really brittle.

The intake manifold removal steps from VADIS are in the first attachment. Book time for replacing the inlet manifold gasket is 2 hours, give or take a few minutes.

EDIT: Attachment removed as wrong one was posted. See later post for the correct information.

When re-connecting the battery on any of the later Volvos the ignition key should be in position 2 and no one should be in the car.

If the sunroof is still playing up this is how to calibrate the sun roof module.

Wow Bill you scared the bageebers out of me with that first link! It says intake manifold removal but it is for exhaust manifold / gasket replacing. I was all confused until I looked at the title in the PDF file itself.

I too am "impatient" 8) so I just went out and pulled the cable and then ate dinner. Well I didn't have the key set to II but run by mistake :roll: and now I don't have dome lights using the buttons and lost the home link so as I'm writing this it is again discharging :oops: .

I receive a new copy of the Volvo Service manual and hopefully it will run this time :evil: . Well I only have 4 more minutes before I try this again note to self put ignition switch to position II this time dummy :? ! :mrgreen:

BTW this car didn't have the Melbus cable in it so no I-Pod for a while.

Well I must have screwed something up big time. I went out turned the key to run then back one position then hooked the ground cable back up and still no dome lights using the buttons or home link. Any ideas guys? My daughter is a tad upset with me right now :cry: . HELP

OK got the dome lights and home link back, did the key deal and they are back :D , still no sunroof though :x . But at lest everything else is back!

thanks for the heads up guys and if Bill could link that intake manifold file for me that would be great. Hay should I replace the plugs if I'm going to pull the intake? Let me know what you guys think.

BTW this is a fantastic site!

If the sunroof module works the same as an S60, it probably needs to be re-programmed then. Sometimes the reset works, sometimes it doesn't. They had to keep the dealers in business somehow!

Here's the one for the intake manifold.

Plugs are up to you. I spent 2 hours in the cold changing them on my sister's Escape (where you have to remove the blasted intake manifold just to get to them) only to find that the dealer that sold it to her had done it already.

FWIW, I've never turned on the ignition when I reconnected the battery cable and I've never had any problems.

Is your alarm system working properly? Believe it or not, the sunroof is connected to it.

The spark plugs are on the top of the engine in a different area than the intake manifold, at least on my T6. See: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=17431

No as a mater a fact the there is something wrong with the alarm also. There is a message on the left side of the dash the say something about "Service Alarm System Required" maybe.

The upside is it looks like I will have the Vadis up and it's updating right now. Spoke to soon now I'm getting a error :? oh well one more thing to deal with.
