ETS Light Comes On
ETS Light Comes On
My ETS light has come on twice and when I shut the car off it goes off. Any suggestions of what could be happening. I understand it is part of the electronic throttle system; do I need to take it to the dealer immediately!!! Thanks for your time!

You didn't say what model you have, but given the history of the throttle bodies in 99-05 Volvos, you're in for an expensive world of hurt unless its still under warranty and the service dept. agrees to cover it ( in most cases, they'll convince you to have a cleaning, thereby delaying the inevitable, a full throttle body replacement costing nearly $1,000 until after your warranty runs out.) Hopefully, Volvo will do the right thing and resolve this issue fairly.

Well unfortunately, its a 2000 XC V70 and NOT under warranty. Do you think I need to have it looked at immediately. The light is not currently on right now but wondering if I should have it looked at.
Thanks for your time.

You don't need to have it looked at unless the car starts idling funny. In the mean time though, it would be in the best interest of making the part last as long as possible, to take a carb cleaner soaked rag and clean the throttle body out.Anonymous wrote:Well unfortunately, its a 2000 XC V70 and NOT under warranty. Your ETS computer has gone bad. $900 for the dealership. It will have to be replaced because it is a computer. Happened to my 2000 S-70 in December. Common in the 70 series.

Before you spend that $800-1,000, to replace it, I'd try cleaning it first per link in 2 posts up.
But the convienence is worth that much to many people.
