Sorry if this is such an elementary question...but I've look all over and cannot find the answer. Do Volvos use an antifreeze other than ethylene glycol? The original in my car was pink. Now, after topping off and assorted leaks, I have probably almost all water and need to flush and replace...but with what?
Thanks

The Volvo coolant is made up of: Ethylene Glycol, Diethylene Glycol, Sebacic Acid, Dodium Hydroxide, 2-Ethylhexanic Acid, Corrosion inhibitors, Defoamers and Silicates.

I've been using standard Anti-freeze (just E-G?) for years now, Is that why my water pump went a few years back (around 100k) ? Have had no problem for 2 years since then with standard A/F.
Am I headed for trouble by not using Volvo's A/F?

The standard green ethylene glycol antifreeze works well for 2 years. After that the corrosion inhibitors are likely depleted. Zerex G-05 is longer lived, as is the VW G12 antifreeze.
