Fuel Pump Issue Prompts Volvo Recall

Post by Steely »

December 23, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Volvo Cars of North America is recalling more than 136,000 vehicles because the fuel pump can develop cracks in its flange when exposed to such conditions as hot climate and temperature cycling over time, in combination with varying fuel quality.

The recall affects the MY 2001-2004 S60, 2002-2005 S80, 2001-2004 V70, 2001-2004 XC70, and 2003-2005 XC90. Those vehicles covered by the recall were sold in or are registered in the states of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and the U.S. territories, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

If the fuel pump flange cracking occurs, vehicle users may notice a fuel smell or fuel leak. This condition increases the risk of fire.

Dealers will inspect the fuel pump installed in the vehicle and, if necessary, replace it with a part of a modified design. This service will be performed free of charge.

Volvo can be reached at (866) 637-3774.
