960 ECC failure codes and intermittent cabin lights

Post by bright »

1995 960 with sunroof.

Hello,
This one is a lot of fun. The other night I got into the car, and used the overhead cabin lights. I noticed that they flickered when I pressed the button, but didn't think too much of it. I started the car and noticed the A/C button flickered a couple of times. I figured it was a bad connection or a bulb leaving the party.

Tonight I was at home (total darkness.) I reached up and tried to turn on the lights. It would only work, and on one side, when I continuously pressed on the housing.

Before taking the housing inside, I pressed around the plastic top (inside of the housing itself) and found that if I pressed on the left side of the top, the right bulb would turn on. The plastic top was loose, in so much that there are tabs that hold it on. It reminded me of a circuit board.

I removed the housing figuring it was a problem with a bulb. As soon as I did that there was the ECC flashing away in a steady, predictable blinks of 1 every second.

I do not know how the two are related. The ECC worked perfectly on the way home. It wasn't till I monkeyed with the cabin housing light that it protested.

Any ideas?

Bright
Many Thanks,
Bright
