S 80 Sunroof Won't Close

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Volvo Repair Database S 80 Sunroof Won't Close

Post by jeffdowns »

I have replaced the switch, checked all the fuses, locked/unlocked with the key in the door, disconnected the battery for an hour and prayed!
I cannot get the sunroof to close. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get it closed? Its in the vent position.
Thanks

Are you getting an "Alarm System Service Required" message?

No. And this is an intermittant thing too. I bought the car about a week ago. The older gentleman that I bought it from was really meticulous with it. He actually had the switch replaced and that didn't fix it. I had both switches so I replaced the one that was in it this AM but still nothing.

You can try locking/unlocking 3 times in a row with the remote to reset the Upper Electronic Module.

Is the module motor located under the light box near the rear view mirror? I dropped it earlier today to put the other switch in. Saw a small black box but didn't do anything to it.
Also, when I either open/close/lock or unlock the door there is a buzz that lasts about one second coming out of the drivers door. Do you have any idea what that could be?

I'm not sure where the motor is. The UEM is in the rearview mirror, I think. If the alarm siren goes out, the sunroof won't work, which is why I asked if you were getting the message. Does your alarm work OK?

I THINK it does. I have set the alarm off with the remote to see if that worked. The loud horn went off and I turned it off quickly. Is that what you are referring to?
By the way, thanks so much for your help.

Yup, that's it. Sounds like it's working OK. The sunroof problem is probably somewhere else.

I vaguely remember someone posting that you can crank the sunroof shut by hand with a wrench. I'd look for a hex on a shaft up by the mechanism to see if you can do that. At least you could keep the rain out.

One more thing, is the sunroof ground wire connected securely?
