Crankcase fumes in car

Post by beazerboy »

I get oil vapour fumes in the car after even a short run. Have changed the pollen filter and sealed the cover from the engine bay. Is there a crankcase breather pipe that might be blocked or broken somewhere.?

Sounds like your PCV(positive crank case vent) is clogged, causing crank case pressure to build. This pressure is now leaking out from the oil fill cap, along with some oil. The oil that leaks out sits under the spark plug cover and cooks when the engine is hot. These burnt oil smells then travel the short distance to your climate control intake vents and then into the cabin.

Might not even be PCV at all.

I currently have any issue where oil is leaking from the turbo and some other area, leaking bits on the cat converter which makes for some pretty bad smells in the cabin when I slow down and come to a stop.

Any oil leaks that you're aware of?

having same prob. with wifes 98 s70. PCV is clogged causeing fumes inside the car. Easy way to check is pull the dipstick while the engine is running and if you see smoke puffing out, then your pcv is clogged.

PCV, leaking seal, or hot oil return line (if your car is a turbo model)
