2004 xc90 t-6 New transmission Design?

Post by lbi14lbb »

I was told by my dealer that as of August 1 2009 all xc 90 t-6 GM transmissions in the parts department had to be returned to Volvo NA and that new re- designed ones were stocked. Is that true? What was the re design? Is new software also needed?
I have found nothing about this re supply of the dealers in searches. Thanks for your input

All they did was go to a completely new transmission, no longer a rebuild. The old part number 8251468 was a rebuild from GM/Volvo, which as we know sometimes barely made it out of the stall it was so badly rebuilt. So the solution was to build them brand new, part number 36001126. You still have to send back your old one for a core, but that part number is brand new.

But I believe the question is whether or not the new transmission fixes the known weaknesses of the old one it replaced. It would b silly to just change a part number and nothing else correct?

So, does anyone know if new transmissions after the August 2009 date are more reliable than before?
