Hello
I am sure this topic has been covered ad nauseum, but I am hoping that someone can help me out as this is all new to me.
Just bought a 2001 S80 2.9, in very good condition.
Unfortunately, did not receive the keyless remotes.
Before I pay the dealer, wanted to see if there was a 3rd party market reliably selling keyless remotes for this vehicle that I could then have the dealer program.
Thank you in advance
Brent

Good luck trying to find a dealer that will program them for you if you didn't buy them there.
However, one member I know of took the remote he bought on Ebay to the dealer and pretended that it was one he already had. He said the remote just stopped working. The dealer then reprogrammed it just for the software/labor charge. You might try that, but if it doesn't work, you could be stuck with two remotes that you can't get programmed (I guess you could just resell them on Ebay in that case)..

Interesting, seeing as how I just bought the car, I could say that the ebay remote was received with the car, but does not work and see what they say.
While you are here, one other question:
Any glaring problems with the car that I should be on the lookout for?

Change the trans oil and filter as per the thread at the top of this forum.
Try not to punch it too often unless you have to. The transmissions are notorious for going out and cost about $4000 to replace.
Look on the front of the ETM (under the intake manifold) and see if it has a yellow sticker on it. If not, read the "Don's ETM Room" forum. You might want to look into getting a new ETM before the warranty runs out.

There is NO way to program a remote purchased from Ebay for an 01 s80. You must input a code for each remote programmed for the vehicle. That code goes two different places, one to Volvo and the other is to the UEM where it is stored and then recognizes the remote when you use it. Without that barcode it is physically impossible to program it.
Now if you had a remote and it was programmed to the car but stopped working randomly, you MIGHT be able to re-capture the code stored in the UEM. The only way to maybe do that is if you do a UEM re-load. When you do the re-load VIDA may ask you if you want to keep the remotes stored, it is a longshot but possible. Ebay remotes for P2 chassis cars are paper weights.
