The oil level sensor (inserts in front side of oil pan) does not function properly, always indicates a low level (dash light always on). Does this sensor interact with electrical components or is it stand alone ? I would like to leave the sensor unhooked (not replace the broken sensor).
Will this create any problems ?

I believe it's standalone. The 94 and later cars don't have such a sensor - theirs are for oil pressure, so I don't know the answer to yours. Unhook it and see what happens. It may trigger a check engine light saying that there is no input from that sensor, or it may be just fine. I'd think the oil light would just stay on the same with the sensor unplugged...you can remove the bulb from the instrument cluster without too much effort in that case. Just keep an eye on your oil

This was a Volvo faux pas which caused great consternation as it seemed to fail regularly. Volvo remedied the mistake by not fitting it to later cars.
Disconnect it. The light should still come on when you first switch on as it is part of the pre-start checks but should go out and stay out.
Bill.

The same thing happens to my father last month. What he did is to change/replace the broken sensor. i think this will not create any problem. Just to share.ronbond009 wrote:The Oil Level Sensor (inserts in front side of oil pan) does not function properly, always indicates a low level (dash light always on).
