Interior letter in vin

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Interior letter in vin

Post by asummers »

Does anyone know how to decode the vin numbers for the S80 models?
I am trying to figure out which letter or number is the interior designation.
Is it in the vin number, or a separate listing on the data tag under the hood?
For example, my vin is YV1TS94D0Yxxxxxxx
2004 Volvo XC90 AWD - 170,000 miles
2010 Volvo XC60 AWD - 145,000 miles
1996 Volvo 850 Platinum - 201,500 miles - KILLED BY UNINSURED DEER _

IIRC, it's on a separate line further down. If you can post a pic of the tag (blob out the VIN if you want), I'll try to identify it for you.

Hi, if you had completed posting the vin on your previous post I would have the color code for you now. It's not like your social security number, you don't have to worry. Post the whole thing and I'll tell you.

I'm not sure you can find the interior color off the VIN.

Volvo has a VIN decoder available online. For my 2001 I went to the following link:
https://www.customers.volvocars.com/own ... n2001.html

According to their breakdown, you can find the Manufacturer's code#, Vehicle series, Body style and restraint systems, Engine,Emission, Check figure, Year model code, Factory code, and serial number.

Perhaps there's a serial number cross-reference that give more details?
(The serial number is the last six digits in the VIN)

As far as publicly posting your own VIN, I would recommend against it. Any unique piece of information can be used in amazing ways by people that have no morals. It's a shame you have to watch out for these things, but it's something to consider. If you submit unique information, try to make sure it's a secure site (starts with https,) and you have a pretty good idea of who you're giving it to.
Enough of the general paranoia. By far the majority of the people we all deal with are ethical, and more than willing to help. That's why these forums are here.
(Stepping off soapbox...) :)

Call a body shop they will be able to tell your where to locate the paint and interior codes. What information are you tiring to come up with, the interior paint code or do you just want to know what color the interior should be? :?: :?

Thank you mvsusr for the Volvo link to the VIN explanation. I changed the 2001 to 2000 to check out the VIN for my 2000 S80T6 but I cant work out what the K5 is. My VIN is YV1TS90K5Y1_ _ _ _ _ _. 90= engine B6284T, Y= 2000, 1= Torslanda, Sweden, but what is the K5? Does anyone have any ideas, clues, or links to check?
Cheers.

K is the emissions code; 5 is the gearbox.

There is a good decoder here.
