ABS Control Module, 2001 v70 with STC

Post by gchardy »

Dash indications are STC light and ABS light illuminated. Mechanic is recommending replacement of the ABS Control Module before any further troubleshooting takes place. (Cost; Dealer - OEM $1800.00, mechanic - $1150.00 for a rebuild, rebuild ordered on line - $200-$500, for the part only.... installation and programming quoted at another $200.00).
Can I get some feedback on your experiences with this unit; why are they failing in such great numbers. Is it just a cold solder joint cracking and can it be repaired by self. Any recommends for a supplier of a rebuild.
Thanks for your assistance.
Graham.

I have an ABS light on I'm on a rebuilt ABS module from BBA remanufacturing in Taunton MA . I still have a problem so it looks as though I need to visit VOLVO $88 as my code reader doesn't read the ABS system To remove the module is easy as long as you have an E-TORX socket. phone number 866.573.2740 you will find them on ebay.or visit their web site @ WWW.BBA-reman.com

Steely, thanks for the link to this Vic guy at http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/
I believe at this point I will give him a shot at my unit.
His website not only explains the symptoms, it also shows 'how to' and his multitude of testimonials speak for themselves.
I also appreciate his opinion on the auto repair industry... he has twenty years in it and I think he hit it right on the mark!
Cheers.

Just to follow up on this thread. I did in fact follow through with the rebuild of my unit with "Victor Rocha" at the following website as recommended by Steely.....

http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/

I cannot say enough how this forum and recommendation has saved me a bundle of hard earned cash. 'Vic' turned the unit around in two business days, accepts PayPal and major credit cards; sent back expedited post from the U.S. to Canada - 4 days in my case. Entire process took two weeks! Installation instructions were provided and yes, there is NO requirement to reprogram the unit by the dealer. Started up the car and the STC and ABS lights were instantly removed. All for less than $200.00! 'Vic' states the rebuild of the unit is done so with superior components and adds heat sinks. His initial inspection of the ABS controller revealed cracking of the solder on the circuit board.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GUYS SERVICE!
Cheers.... (I had a great sleep last night after installation.)

Either use Victor or these guys;
http://www.modulemaster.com
Cheaper than Victor, faster turnaround (2 days) and just as good.
I've bought at least 5-6 from them and they're just fine.
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP
