V70 2003 oil leak

Post by datechwriter1 »

I have been dealing with an oil leak on my car for over a year. There is no visible sign on the ground. I am replacing the oil more frequently with the recent time at 1 quart per week. My mechanic said I will have to take the engine apart to see where the leak is from. Anyone else with a similar problem? Thanks! ~Helen

Can you post photos? it must be dirty, dirty on the top of the lower splash cover? Does your Mech. know P-2 platforms and if not pay a fee to have it properly looked at.

I drive about 50 miles per workday. On weekends, I do multiple short 2 to 4 mile trips running errands. Does this affect the oil leak?

As for the P-2 platform, I will investigate. My car engine does not look dirty when I open the hood. Where is the splash cover?

Thanks!
~Helen

We have never had to "take the engine apart" to diagnose an oil leak. The most common leak location is the cam seals behind the timing belt cover (if your facing the engine it is the cover on the left side in between the engine and serpentine belt.

If you are not seeing any evidence of a leak on the garage floor then it may just be that you are burning oil. You can try a heavier weight oil to slow burning. Also, make sure your are having the car serviced at regular intervals. The standard Synthetic Blend oil (5/30) used in post 2000 Volvos should be changed every 5000 miles or every 5 months, whichever comes first.
