Hello, I've heard that there are security wrench sets which feature little fingers which grab into the various configurations of security wheel lugs. How long were they on? Use anti-seize when you replace them. Sounds like the glide pins of your brake caliper went dry and bound up. Get a 7mm hex bit. Remove, clean and relube them. Kira

+1 Kira. I'll post a link for taking the brakes apart. http://www.freewebs.com/dacvolvo/brakediscsandpads.htm

If all attempts fail to remove security lugs, as was the case with a Jeep I once owned, and you are desperate. You can weld a 5/8 hex nut to the face of the lug and then use a socket on the nut, to remove the lug. You just weld thru the center hole of the nut right to the face of the lug. It is rude and crude but it will work. Note that this will destroy the lug and it will have to be replaced. You also may want to cover the rim from weld spatter as it may mar the finish of your rim.

Might I suggest is a rebuilt caliper . Check a couple of parts suppliers as the prices vary.

Rebuilt calipers are a last option as I see it. It's better to repair something than to replace it if it all possible. Once you get the wheel off, re-grease the guide pins, anywhere where anything rubs together or moves back and forth, and if you can, the outside of the caliper piston.

I have actually done just fine with rebuilt calipers from NAPA. I had a bad front and I think it cost me around $70.00 with a core charge of $69.00 - I think they want the core back!

It was a rebuilt OEM Volvo ATE caliper and it fit right up with no anguish. Syl Glyde brake grease is always your friend to grease the pins. The only difference was the caps over the mounting bolt covers, they were not the same size but I was able to hammer my larger caps into the replacement covers.
