850 Station Wagon - B5254S Oil Separator Service

The oil separator on my 850 SW needs to be either removed and cleaned or replaced. Is there any "easy" way to do this job. The manual that I have checked (Haynes) indicates the need to remove the intake manifold to accomplish this task. Is there any other way? :(
