Need Help Finding the Other End of a Vacuum Line

Post by JamesPW »

Alright guys I need a little help with my vacuum leak. I have the PO172 fault causing a check engine. I started replacing the rotted elbows as offered on the forum and pulled one of the lines free from the other direction. Now I can’t find where it pulled free from. Can you guys offer any advice?

In the picture I’m holding it up to give some perspective. Looks like errant end is cracked so the final terminus could be much further away.

Many thanks,

You might find that going to the vacuum tower just by the throttle housing linkage under the plastic cover with the phillips screw you can't miss it the accellerator cable goes there too.

Your setup looks the same as mine. I have the 97 turbo. I have a line attached to the underside of my air intake hose too but it travels just a short distance to that three prong affair which hangs on the engine side of the air filter box. Take the air filter cover off to see it better. I believe my line went into the middle nipple.

The white vacuum line is from the temperature control valve on the upper side of the air filter box & it connects to the vacuum tower located above the throttle housing .

Thanks guys,

I have two white vacuum tubing lines. I checked the tubing under the throttle housing and traced all the line. Everything appears intact. I traced the vacuum lines from the front of the manifold again everything checked out.

MNCO1,
You are in the right spot. There’s a second line off the intake. That’s the one that broke off. I spent 3 hours today trying to find out where it connects too. It appears to go straight down but I can’t find the missing segment. Any chance you can take a peek and see where it leads?

Paramedic – I’m going to check out your recommendation tomorrow.

that nipple on the flex hose (after air cleaner) is supposed to be connected to the middle nipple on the TCV (turbo control valve). TCV is mounted at the side of air cleaner box. it has 3 nipples and one electrical socket at the other end.
