2003 Volvo S40 engine stops at idle speed

Hello,

Yesterday I got check engine light and car stopped. I tried to turn back on it starts and immediately stops. When it starts and I accelerate little immediately then it runs and I can drive as long as I don't take my foot off the accelerator paddle.

I got following check engine codes:

P0508
P0245
P0445
P2401
P0031
P0037

Any clue what's going on? I had timing belt change couple of weeks ago. My guess is vacuum leak somewhere. How do I check vacuum leak?

How are your spark plugs? Air filter?

Check vacuum lines -- small diameter hard plastic tubes, and their elbows.

Recently changed spark plug. Air filter clean. I don't see anything unusual wrong with vacuum lines and no hissing(spell??) sound.

I just dropped car to my mechanics. Will see what he finds.

Hi there, the most efficient way to check for vac leaks is to hook up a smoke machine. It will pressurize the intake tract slightly with smoke to find any leaks. This will be your best bet for finding a tough to track down leak.

My mechanic does not think it is ECM. He thought it is throttle body but replacing it did not resolve the problem. Vacuum lines are OK. He is still looking for problem.

Yikes, he jumped to replacing the throttle body? Sounds like a simple airflow issue to me. Not necessarily vacuum lines, but something like a rip in an air boot or a bad air mass meter.

Problem was with intake hose. This hose is about 2" in diameter and is connected to air filter assembly. PCB containing sensor circuitary is located inside this hose. After replacing this hose with PCB, everything works fine. Thanks for all the suggestions.
