S80 Window De-mist, Rear Head Restrains

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 Window De-mist, Rear Head Restrains

Post by 98S80T6SE »

Hi,
I am a newbie with posts. I have spent many hours reading thro a lot of the posts but unfortunately i am yet to get some info on the following.
i hope you can help.
Story starts with a S80 T6...recent auto box fix which i found out is a common fault. This cost me over £1k for a fix, but i am hooked on the untapped power!!
My car has only 57k miles and has a couple of electrical problems which are getting on my nerves :?
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to source a solution for my window de-mist problem. Basically it doesnt work. I have checked the obvious fuses..in fact i cant remember which one it is but checked all in case. Also my door mirror heating does not work. Around about the same time my rear head restrains do not work on the switch! What i mean is they do not 'drop' when activated.
I love the car..especially the power as mentioned before (i have always wanted a 'sleeper')... and have no intention of trading it in as it would be a shame especially with regards to the low mileage. I am in the process of changing the CV joints.

Interior de-mist isnt a problem as it has the best in my opinion.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix these little glitches?

Come the summer time i am getting it lowered and stiffened with a power exhaust and full remap. All the young uns have no idea what this model can do so its going to be fun from the lights!!

Advanced thanks for a response

I can only respond to your rear head restraints. Same issue for me. I had to replace the actual button by taking the unit apart to gain access to it. But maybe something else is causing your issue. I hate to say it, but maye the entire unit is fried?

Thanks for the reply....the light does come on when i press the switched but nothing happens with the demist.
I will check the head-restrain when i get a moment.
Just replaced the cv joints this morning and now the dreaded transmission service urgent light has come on within 3 miles of leaving my work where i fitted the cv joints. Cant believe this.
I have given up a BMW for this crap!! Twice!!!! :(

You can always try the lock and unlock the drivers door three times and see if it resets anything using the key or key fob. If that doesn't work unhook the battery let it sit 30 minuets then turn the key to run then back one click to the ACC II position, then reconnect the battery. NOTE the key MUST be in the ACC II or one position back from run and not in the run position (don't ask how I know :x ) !

What I am finding out with our Volvo S80 is items are grouped together like the overhead lamps, sunroof and home link are all reset at the same time and when you work on one thing it affects others. They are great cars but they sure can be a pain in the backside if you are new to Volvo's.

Good luck Don
