Post by mamali »

I have driven her for 130 miles and the modules will not be ready. I tried the reset procudure but not correctly since there are traffic lights all over where I live. The tags expire in 2 days and not sure what to do!!!!!!!

You can't just "drive it"
There's a specific drive cycle that gets the job done, but how do you know it's still "not ready"?
How many not ready codes are left? Usually you can run it on the emissions machine with TWO (2) not readies

and it will PASS!

PM me if you need more help

Yes.you can just drive it, but it may take a couple weeks of regular usage to reset. I live in a city where the proper drive cycle to reset is impossible. My '99 V70 T5 took 500 miles of daily driving, and then the damned engine light went back on. The dealership, I believe can reset it instantly with their computer. It's just another way the Europeans make things more complicated than they need to be. Most American and Japanese cars can reset themselves with a few trips around the block.

I've seen the full procedure for completing the test cycle somewhere, and it's daunting. If I remember, you must drive the car over 60 for 15 or 20 min. then some city driving, then highway again. It usually takes awhile. I've been told the service light in the 98's can only be reset with a Volvo scan tool, and only after the cycle has been completed. The check engine light, however, can be reset by any generic OBD2 scanner at your local auto parts store. The one I go to will let u borrow it if u give them ur ID.

yes, sorry, I meant the "not ready" status can be reset to "ready" at the dealer so you can get an immediate inspection, without going through a drive cycle. The OBDII can be reset by any generic scannner. But that only turns off any trouble codes and brings you back to a "not ready" state. Then you have to wait for a ready, and hope no trouble codes pop back up. Then you can get an inspection.

I gave up on mine, and paid someone for a hacked inspection sticker. the CEL is on for two evap problems, but the car runs fine.

I tried the reset procedure below the best I could(Lights in a few spots) 3 times. An additional 180 miles and still 6 modules are not ready. Took her to Carmax they wanted to give me $1500.00?? I had a good laugh and came home. I gave up. Anyone want a 98 XC70 cheap??

. Start the engine and accelerate to approximately 1500-2000 rpm. 2. Drive for 6 minutes at 1500-2000 rpm. 3. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 70 seconds. 4. Accelerate to at least 45mph and drive for 5 minutes at 1800-2200 rpm. 5. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 60 seconds. 6. Accelerate to at least 45 mph and drive for 4 minutes at 1800-2200 rpm. 7. Stop the vehicle and remain at idle in drive for 60 seconds. 8. Park the vehicle and turn off the engine.

Sounds about right, you have a problem there
and a dealer CANNOT set the readiness status just like "that"!
The same drive cycle applies to them as it does to you.
I really wish certain people would not post falsehoods
