Hello guys,
my 2000 S80 T6 is leaking oil, my friend checked it today and said that i have a rear cam seal leaking badly & poss a rear main seal also.
Should I get it fixed or get rid off it? is it hard to fix?
I am going to talk to him in about 2 hours. I'd really appreciate it if you can give me some advise by then...
it has got 125000 miles on it

Its not hard to fix, but it is labour intensive. Also you will need to factor in having the PCV system replaced/serviced as this is likely what caused your seals to let go in the first place. To be honest theres a good chance most of the oil loss is from the PCV oil trap area. I as losing a over a quart every 30 miles through mine!
As to weather its worth fixing, taking the issues at face value, depending on the condition of the rest of the car I would say its absolutely worth fixing. All depends on how much its going to cost you.

my mecahnic friend suggested to replace the cam seal first and add some additive and see if it stops the leak. this is what we are going do first. the car is in great shape an i really like it. i did all the maintenance and changed passenger side and upper mounts, spark plugs, transmission fluid, tires, are new, interior is in good condition.

"stop leak" or suck like is a bad idea and at beast will treat the symptoms (short term) and not the cuase. Most likely the seals are leaking beacuse of excess crankcase pressure due to a blocked PCV system. With these motors its nto a case of if the PCV gets blocked, its when and how bad. The pressure builds up until it gets to a point where it starts to blow out seals.

here is the update,
the rear cam seal has been replaced and some oil stop leak additive was added,
the ECM has been upgraded. (What kind of difference should be expecting?)
i hope this will stop the leak, otherwise the rear main seal will need to be replaced.. which is a lot of work...

Did you clean out the PCV? If not, you might still have leak problems due to the pressure buildup. It's a PITA, but more work than parts. Most of the cost is in the labor.neworleans wrote:here is the update,

no, the pcv hasn't been cleaned. if it continues to leak, that would be the next step i guess...

You can be almost certain that its going to leak again. The stop lieak will last so long until the pressure gets to a point where it blows out the seal big time and you end up with a nasty oil leak
I think there is one for the T6 somewhere. There a a good few on the 5Cyl motor which is nearly identical in terms of the PCV setup. Basically pull the inlet manifold off and you'll see a plastic box attached to the block at the front of the motor. A fuel line separator tool will come in handy too. The box and its associated piping will need to be cleaned or replaced. There is one pipe that goes from the PCV box, underneath the inlet manifold and makes its way up to the turbo piping, the other two aluminum pipes are just coolant pipes. There is also a small vacuum pipe that goes from the PCV box (Oil separator is the correct term) to the inlet manifold via a small metal ring, be careful not to break this.
