XC90 T5 AWD - 2004 - After Battery Disconnect
XC90 T5 AWD - 2004 - After Battery Disconnect
I have an 2004 XC90 T5 AWD 7-passenger, 64k miles, black with oak interior, good vehicle. I disconnected the battery cable to remove the CD player that had a stuck CD. I put the key in the ignition switch and turned to position II in order to rotate the steering wheel. I forgot about the key in position II and reconnected the battery cable. Now, the following items do not work: the drivers door window and door lock control module, keyless remote, turn signals, high beam headlights. I was not able to locate a blown fuse. Does anyone know what happened?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
This is normal.
Accidentally you did the right thing. When re-connecting the battery the key should be in position 11 to prevent the SRS activating. How lucky can you be?
This is hidden away on page 134 of the owner's manual:
For other parts that may need sorting out you will find the instructions here.
Bill.

You can also lock and unlock with the key to do this.NOTE: After the battery has been disconnected or replaced, lock and unlock the vehicle with the central locking system's remote control to reactivate such features as the power windows, moonroof, courtesy lighting, etc.

Bill, Thanks for your prompt reply. These are exactly the first things I tried. I tried to unlock and lock the doors with the remote. The remote did not work. It worked before disconnecting the battery. I then lock and unlocked the drivers door with the key. This also did not remedy the problem.

I have checked VADIS and come up with the same method except they add the Volvo VIDA communication device, dealer only.
I would be tempted to disconnect the battery and start again. VADIS instructions for the disconnect/connect are:
When the ignition has been switched off wait at least 5 minutes before disconnecting the battery. This is so there is sufficient time for information to be stored in the control modules.
Disconnect the negative lead.
After disconnecting the battery wait at least 3 minutes before doing anything as the SRS system is still active.
Before connecting the battery turn the ignition switch to position 11
Initialize the central locking, interior lighting and sunroof by unlocking the car using a remote control, key or VIDA communication.
Having typed this I have noticed a discrepancy between the instruction in the manual and VADIS. The manual says to "lock and unlock the vehicle". VADIS says to "unlock". Will it make a difference as the vehicle is already unlocked? It may and is worth a try as the next step would be to go to the dealer, something I am always hesitant about advising.

Thanks bill I had the same problem. My battery went dead and I checked all the fuses to get the moon roof and others to work.
I just read your reply and used my remote to lock and unlock the doors. It worked. thank you so much
