V70 2004 starts but immidiatly dies

Hi guys,
Need some major help as I'm running out of ideas.........

V70 2004 non-turbo was running fine without any problems. My friend moved the car in the driveway (I believe he had it running for a short period of time and might have had his keys for his Mazda with him) and next thing you know the volvo seems to start for about 1 sec and then dies right away.
It turns and cranks and seems to start for only a 1 sec or 2 and dies right away consistantly.

This is what I have done so far:
- able to hear fuel pump
- know that there is fuel in the fuel injection rail as I have press the end of the rail and some fuel came out, do not know the exact pressure, not sure how to measure that?
- I have changed the ignition switch, no difference.
- I have change the antenna ring, no difference.
- I have locked/unlocked 5 times to reset immobilizer, still no difference
- Starter turns the engine.
- all connection seem to be intact.
- also took out the spark plugs and cleaned them or dried them out.
- also not getting any codes but I'm not sure how reliable my new OBDII is as I just got it.

What else can I try/do. Please help as I do not look forward to take it to the dealer.

Hello, Two guesses: Try to start with the MAF sensor unplugged. Did you change your sparkplugs to something other than the 5-pack of 3-prong for non-turbos from Volvo?---->WEEKS AFTER I tried some other plug the car wouldn't start and the plugs looked fine. Freaky, I know, but true. Please post back when you learn what went wrong. Kira

I just cleaned the original spark plugs, I am now thinking of buying new ones from Volvo.
I will try to unplug the MAF sensor to start and let you know.

Double check the antenna ring as that sounds favourite, get the fault codes read by something known to work with that model of car (you don't mention which code reader you are using) to see if that can offer any advice on whats wrong rather than swapping out loads of different parts as you might be introducing more faults that fixing - Mike

I have used:
Autel MaxiScan MS309 OBD2 & EOBD Diagnostic Code Reader

But it said there are no codes. Not sure how good the tool is as I just got it.

I have unplugged the MAF and tried starting the car. Still no difference. It cranks and starts for a second or two and dies immediately after. Also what would be a good OBDII scan tool to buy to work with my Volvo V70 2004?

Sorry, just re-read your post.

The starting & immediately dying is a classic ignition antenna ring/immobilizer circuit symptom. Try inserting & removing the key a few times and see if it works.

It could also be a bad alarm relay. I'm not sure how the system works on a 2004 as opposed to my "simple" 98, but most fixes with the newer cars require a dealer re-programming or the key itself may need to be "re-mated" to the car. That alone may solve all your problems, but unfortunately both can only be done at the dealer.
