THrottle delay, no etm message

Post by Japedo »

My 01 V7O XC's throttle has a 1 to 3 second delay. I press the throttle half way while sitting at idle and it acts as if nothing happened for a second or two then the car smoothly accelerates.
Whats with the dealy I wonder? Seems like a throttle positoin sensor or in this case the ETM I guess.... Have never messed with an issue like this, any guidance would be extremley beneficial.

THanks folks

The ETM software upgrade has increased the wear tolerance between both potentiometers. The greater the tolerance, the slower the ETM response is. Additional processing time is needed for the ETM to calculate the exact position of the throttle plate.

ETS light will come on when the wear its beyond the set threshold, by the time this happens your engine will surge, stall etc.

XeMOdex thanks for the input, and your explanation makes good sence.

I did finally get the car loooked at by the dealer today And they were able to pull 4 codes in relation to the "accelerator pedal position sensor" and the fella at the dealer seemed positive that my "APPS" was toast. He even printed out the diagnostic findings, and under ETM it states "no fault found".
I also learned today that my originall ETM was replaced at 79miles prior to my ownership, but the car is at 157 now could be ready again.

THe dealer fella asked me if I ever boosted the car, stating this can fry the "APPS" And unfortunantley... I did once.

Hooked a battery charger up to the XC under the hood the same way u would if u were boosting another vehicle and put the charger in engine cranking mode. I tried to start the car hooked up like this but it didn't seem to be transmitting any power, starter still wouldn't whirl. But when I checked under the hood the positive wire from the charger was so hot I couldn't touch it!!!
I also developed two msg's by doing this "engine management system urgent" "engine management service required"

At this point I felt humbled by my stupidity, pulled the battery filled it with distilled water and charged it over night. Clearing the obd codes wouldn't clear those msg's and nothing seemed too messed up, but it was around this time maybe exactly this time that my wife started telling me her throttle had a hesitation.

I haven't found much info on the net in regards to this pedal position sensor and it's function, resistance readings etc.. I would like to confirm myself somehow that it is toas before ordering another.

Furthermore why is my 850 so simple to work on and this so difficult? lol no need to answer that one... it's a sad answer but I know...

Thanks to all!
